New Delhi — The 71st National Film Awards 2025 turned into a landmark evening for Indian cinema as three of Bollywood’s most celebrated performers—Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Vikrant Massey—took home the top acting honors. The ceremony, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, was presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, who presented the winners with the prestigious Silver Lotus medal, certificate, and official prize money.
For the first time in his illustrious career, Shah Rukh Khan was awarded Best Actor for his commanding performance in Jawan. Sharing the spotlight, Vikrant Massey also received the Best Actor award for his critically acclaimed role in 12th Fail. In a rare occurrence, the honor was split between two actors, with each receiving the traditional ₹2 lakh prize money divided equally.
Meanwhile, Rani Mukerji was crowned Best Actress for her powerful portrayal in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. The win marked her first National Award, cementing her legacy as one of Bollywood’s most versatile and enduring talents.
The National Film Awards, established in 1954, remain India’s highest recognition for cinematic excellence. Beyond the glamour, the awards highlight the diversity of Indian cinema, honoring not only Hindi films but also outstanding contributions from Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, and other regional industries.
Industry observers hailed the 2025 edition as historic: Shah Rukh Khan, often called the “King of Bollywood,” finally secured a National Award after decades of dominance at the box office; Vikrant Massey’s recognition underscored the rise of new‑age actors; and Rani Mukerji’s win reaffirmed the enduring power of seasoned performers.
Looking ahead, the triumph of these three stars is expected to inspire a new generation of filmmakers and actors. The 71st National Film Awards not only celebrated individual brilliance but also reinforced the evolving narrative of Indian cinema—where legacy, innovation, and authenticity converge on the global stage.
