Jakarta – PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim) has once again demonstrated its leadership in corporate governance and sustainability by earning nominations for two prestigious categories at the ASEAN Risk Awards 2025—the ASEAN GRC Award and Public Initiatives Award. Hosted by the Enterprise Risk Management Academy (ERMA), this annual recognition spotlights companies across Southeast Asia that exemplify best practices in governance, risk, and compliance.
According to President Director Budi Wahju Soesilo, the recognition is a result of Pupuk Kaltim’s steadfast commitment to embedding GRC principles into the very DNA of its operations. “Our nomination affirms that GRC is not a project, but a value system ingrained into our corporate culture and identity,” Soesilo shared in a recent press statement.
In the ASEAN GRC Award category, Pupuk Kaltim was recognized for its systematic and holistic integration of governance, risk, and compliance across all business lines. This approach has dismantled traditional silos and fostered cross-functional collaboration grounded in transparency and accountability.
In parallel, the Public Initiatives Award nomination celebrates the company’s innovative and sustainable social programs, such as KILAU SAMUDERA—a marine conservation initiative that blends ecological education, community empowerment, and the use of industrial byproducts like FABA (fly ash bottom ash) for coral media production. The program, which began in 2009, exemplifies environmentally responsible risk management while generating tangible economic benefits for coastal communities.
Since 2024, Pupuk Kaltim has elevated its risk management capabilities by forming a Directorate of Risk Management and a Risk Oversight Committee, which also acts as an Integrated Governance Committee. These bodies were created to respond to rising regulatory complexity and market expectations, ensuring GRC remains strategically embedded across all decision-making processes.
To further institutionalize GRC, the company has adopted internationally recognized models including the Three Lines Model and Integrated Risk Management Model (MRT). Its digital GRC ecosystem now serves as a centralized nervous system, enabling real-time data-based decision-making, early warning mechanisms, and cross-functional reporting.
“Digital integration is at the core of our GRC strategy—it empowers our teams with visibility, speed, and clarity,” said Soesilo. The organization also employs the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) methodology to ensure consistent performance evaluations and iterative improvement cycles.
These measures have yielded measurable results. Pupuk Kaltim now holds the highest Risk Maturity Index in the Pupuk Indonesia Group, has achieved 100% compliance in public asset reporting (LHKPN), and retains multiple ISO certifications, including ISO 37001 (anti-bribery), ISO 22301 (business continuity), and IRCA recognition in 2024.
“GRC must transcend policy—it must be lived and internalized at all levels,” added Soesilo. To this end, the company adopts a human-centered, participative approach in building awareness and ownership among employees. The goal: to make integrity and compliance second nature.
From internal controls to social responsibility, Pupuk Kaltim’s GRC architecture reflects a rare harmony between business excellence and societal impact. As Soesilo emphasized, “Our mission is to make GRC not just a compliance tool, but a strategic enabler for a sustainable and competitive future.”
