Jakarta Rises to Rank 53 in World’s Best Cities 2026

London — Resonance Consultancy has released its 2026 World’s Best Cities Report, reaffirming London’s dominance at the top for the 11th consecutive year. New York City follows in second place, celebrated as the “eternal heartbeat of America,” while Paris secures third with its blend of historic charm and futuristic urban transformation.

Jakarta, however, emerges as one of the most notable climbers. Ranked 53rd, the Indonesian capital surpasses Washington DC (57th) and Taipei (63rd), marking only its second appearance in the top 100 after debuting at 89th in 2023. Within Southeast Asia, Jakarta trails behind Kuala Lumpur (50th), Bangkok (22nd), and Singapore (6th), yet its rise reflects growing recognition of its urban dynamism.

The report highlights Jakarta’s evolving infrastructure, cultural vibrancy, and economic resilience. With ongoing investments in public transport and urban renewal, the city is positioning itself as a competitive hub in the region. Resonance’s methodology combines global user data, statistical indicators, and Ipsos surveys across 30 countries, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of prosperity, livability, and appeal.

London’s sustained leadership is attributed to its magnetism for students, entrepreneurs, and investors, reinforced by a 10‑year plan to expand global reach and attract £10 billion in new investment. Jakarta’s inclusion in this prestigious list underscores Indonesia’s broader ambition to elevate its capital as a world‑class metropolis.

For Jakarta, the recognition is more than symbolic. It signals a shift in perception: from a city often criticized for congestion and pollution to one increasingly seen as a rising global contender. The challenge ahead lies in sustaining momentum, balancing growth with livability, and ensuring that its ascent translates into tangible benefits for its citizens.
