London — The 2025 Skytrax awards have once again placed the spotlight on the airlines making the most remarkable strides in service, comfort, and overall passenger experience. This year’s “Most Improved Airlines” category reflects a dynamic mix of luxury newcomers, revitalized flag carriers, and budget airlines defying expectations.
At the top of the list is Taiwan-based STARLUX Airlines, which achieved its first-ever 5-Star Airline rating in June 2025 — an impressive milestone for such a young carrier. Known for attentive service, refined cabin design, and gourmet-inspired menus, STARLUX has quickly positioned itself as a serious competitor in premium travel.
In second place, ITA Airways — the successor to Italy’s Alitalia — has emerged with a refreshed fleet, enhanced customer service, and a stronger brand identity under the Lufthansa Group. HK Express secured third place by evolving beyond its budget image, upgrading its Airbus fleet, and introducing AI-driven customer service enhancements.
The top 10 list also features Eurowings, which has improved reliability and onboard comfort, and Egyptair, praised for its modernized fleet and renewed focus on Egyptian hospitality. Air Japan earned sixth place with its minimalist yet thoughtful approach, offering competitive fares on Boeing 787 routes across Asia.
The biggest surprise for many is MIAT Mongolian Airlines at number seven. The carrier has introduced Boeing 787 Dreamliners to its long-haul network and expanded domestic connectivity, transforming from a small regional airline into an ambitious player with global aspirations.
Other notable entries include Discover Airlines, which has elevated its leisure travel offering; Air Greenland, which is leveraging its new Nuuk airport hub for wider connectivity; and Cebu Pacific, which continues to redefine budget-friendly travel with modern aircraft and improved passenger experience.
For travellers, the Skytrax most improved list serves as both a guide and an invitation — to revisit airlines they may have previously overlooked and to explore new standards of service in an ever-evolving aviation industry.
