Bangkok Named Best City in the World for Gen Z by Time Out

Bangkok – Bangkok has officially claimed the title of the world’s best city for Gen Z, according to Time Out’s latest survey. Known for its vibrant street food, rich cultural heritage, and dynamic nightlife, the Thai capital surpassed Melbourne, Cape Town, and even New York to top the 2025 ranking.

The findings are based on a global survey of more than 18,500 city dwellers. Unlike Time Out’s usual all-generational ranking, this year’s list focused exclusively on respondents under the age of 30 — Gen Z and younger millennials. The result: Bangkok emerged as the city most beloved by young people seeking energy, inclusivity, and opportunity.

Three key factors placed Bangkok ahead of its global peers: overall happiness of its residents, affordability of living costs, and ease of meeting new people. Time Out highlighted that young Bangkok residents were the most likely in the world to describe their city as ideal for making friends.

Beyond social connections, Bangkok offers what Time Out described as “the full package.” The city is home to iconic cultural landmarks such as Wat Arun and the Grand Palace, a flourishing international community, and endless opportunities for exploration — from bustling markets to lively festivals. For Gen Z, the appeal lies in a city that balances tradition with modern dynamism.

“Bangkok is a place that keeps you engaged, whether you’re visiting for a short trip or settling down longer. There’s always something new to discover, and always someone new to meet,” the report noted.

Melbourne secured the second spot, praised for its inclusivity and cultural diversity, with four out of five young residents applauding its openness. Cape Town followed in third place, celebrated for its striking scenery around Table Mountain and accessible nightlife.

New York, often called the city that never sleeps, landed in fourth place thanks to its high levels of excitement, walkability, and nightlife appeal. Copenhagen rounded out the top five, where Gen Z respondents highlighted quality of life and even ease of finding romantic connections.

The top 20 cities also included Barcelona, Edinburgh, Mexico City, London, Shanghai, Paris, Tokyo, Berlin, and Lisbon. Yet it was Bangkok’s unique combination of affordability, friendliness, and cultural vibrancy that propelled it to the very top of Gen Z’s global wishlist in 2025.

For a generation driven by experiences and connections, Bangkok has become more than just a travel destination — it has positioned itself as a city to live, create, and thrive.
