Urban Company Crowned ‘Startup of the Year’ at ET Startup Awards 2025 for Transforming Home Services

Gurugram, India — At-home services pioneer Urban Company has been named Startup of the Year 2025 at the prestigious ET Startup Awards, celebrated for its transformative role in professionalising the home-services sector, building a trusted brand, and achieving profitability while scaling beyond India.

Chosen from a competitive shortlist that included Porter, Rapido, and Groww, Urban Company impressed the jury with its ability to create a new category from the ground up — structuring a fragmented market and delivering consistent customer delight. Founded in 2014 as UrbanClap, the company has evolved into a vertically integrated powerhouse that not only connects customers with service providers but also trains professionals, supplies tools, and sets service quality benchmarks.

“We are truly humbled and honoured to win the ET Startup of the Year award,” said Abhiraj Singh Bhal, co-founder and CEO of Urban Company. “Our vision when we started was to bring trust, reliability, and dignity to the home-services industry. Over the years, this journey has become far greater — empowering over 50,000 professionals to thrive as micro-entrepreneurs and delivering seamless, high-quality experiences to millions of customers.”

The jury lauded Urban Company for “creating structure in an unorganised sector” and praised its emphasis on governance and brand credibility. “Urban Company is a terrific business. It’s probably the only company here that every juror has personally used — and the experience has always been exceptional,” said Tarun Mehta, founder and CEO of Ather Energy. “They’ve gone international, built strong governance, created a new category, generated thousands of jobs, built a trusted brand, turned profitable, and are now heading towards an IPO. What’s not to like?”

The startup’s achievements are underpinned by impressive financial performance. Urban Company reported ₹1,144 crore in revenue for FY2025 and posted a net profit of ₹240 crore, a sharp turnaround from a ₹93 crore loss the previous year. Its diverse portfolio includes a wide range of at-home services — from cleaning, plumbing, and electrical work to appliance repair, skincare, and massage therapy. Recently, the company also entered the consumer products segment with its Native line of water purifiers and smart locks.

The recognition marks the second time Urban Company has been honoured at the ET Startup Awards, having previously won in 2021 in the Covid-led Business Transformation category. For the founders, the award is a validation of their long-term mission. “We feel deeply humbled, especially given the calibre of the other nominees,” said Varun Khaitan, co-founder and COO. “This award motivates us to keep innovating, scaling, and creating impact at an even larger level.”

Looking ahead, the company remains committed to pushing boundaries. “At our core, we still carry the DNA of a Series-A startup — restless, ambitious, and driven to make a massive positive impact on society over the next two decades,” said Raghav Chandra, co-founder and chief product and technology officer.

With strong fundamentals, expanding global ambitions, and a relentless focus on quality and governance, Urban Company is poised to shape the future of home services — not just in India, but around the world.
