Jaguar Maintains UK Production Strategy Amid US Tariff Pressures

London – In a firm assertion of its global manufacturing stance, Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed it has no plans to establish vehicle production facilities in the United States, despite escalating trade tensions and tariff policies under the Trump administration. The statement follows widespread speculation after recent remarks by the company’s CEO during a media earnings call.

“Following articles based on comments made by the JLR CEO in the full year earnings media call, we can confirm we have no plans to build cars in the US,” a Jaguar spokesperson told the BBC.

The British luxury automaker, which currently does not operate any factories in the United States, temporarily halted exports to the American market in April in response to newly announced tariffs. Shipments resumed in May, though the environment remains uncertain. The company has also joined other leading manufacturers in withdrawing profit forecasts due to the unpredictability of US trade policy.

President Trump’s administration has imposed a sweeping 10% tariff on a broad range of UK exports, including vehicles, steel, and aluminium. While recent negotiations have resulted in selective tariff exemptions—such as reduced duties on limited numbers of British cars—most UK goods entering the US remain subject to significant levies.

Industry-wide, luxury automakers including Mercedes-Benz and Stellantis (the parent company of Chrysler) have echoed Jaguar’s caution, opting not to issue forward-looking financial guidance. Ford, for its part, estimates the tariffs will add roughly $1.5 billion to its operating costs this year alone.

The impact extends well beyond the automotive sector. Global brands such as Intel, Skechers, Procter & Gamble, Adidas, and Mattel have all voiced concern or adjusted pricing strategies in response to the new trade environment. Barbie maker Mattel, for instance, announced it will raise US prices on select products due to increased import costs.

For Jaguar, the decision to maintain its UK manufacturing base underscores both strategic consistency and a measured response to geopolitical risk. In a time of growing protectionism, the automaker is positioning itself as a resilient British brand with global reach—firmly rooted in its home market, while navigating international uncertainty with precision.
